This is the fifth and final annual report from the Diabetes Research Unit Cymru (DRU Cymru) which was established in April 2015 with funding from Health and Care Research Wales. The aim of DRU Cymru has been to develop and deliver research to address the important health and social care needs faced by people living with diabetes. Diabetes remains a serious health issue and the number of people living with the condition continues to rise with over 200,000 people diagnosed with diabetes in Wales (nearly 8% of the population) and a further 580,000 people estimated to be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes costs the NHS in Wales approximately £500m a year, 10% of its annual budget.

Dyma'r pumed adroddiad blynyddol gan Uned Ymchwil Diabetes Cymru (DRU Cymru) a sefydlwyd yn 2015 gyda chyllid gan Ymchwil Iechyd a Gofal Cymru. Hwn fydd yr adroddiad olaf. Mae DRU Cymru wedi anelu at ddatblygu a chyflawni ymchwil i fynd i'r afael â'r anghenion iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol pwysig sydd gan bobl sy'n byw gyda diabetes.  Mae diabetes yn parhau'n fater iechyd difrifol ac mae nifer y bobl sy'n byw gyda'r cyflwr yn parhau i gynyddu, gyda mwy na 200,000 o bobl â diagnosis o ddiabetes yng Nghymru (sef bron 8% o'r boblogaeth) ac amcangyfrifir bod 580,000 o bobl eraill yn wynebu risg o ddatblygu diabetes Math 2. Mae diabates yn costio tua £500m y flwyddyn i'r GIG yng Nghymru, sef 10% o'i gyllideb blynyddol.
